DEVELOPMENT has begun on the graphite producing Mineral Resources Pilot Plant as part of the mining services provider’s partnership with Hazer Group.

In December Hazer and Mineral Resources executed a binding cooperation agreement to work together to develop and commercialise Hazer's graphite producing technology.

That technology uses natural gas and an iron ore catalyst to develop graphite.

Mineral Resources is providing the capital for a staged development project for graphite production and Hazer has given Mineral Resources access to its intellectual property portfolio.

The first stage of the project is to build a pilot scale facility capable of producing one tonne per annum of graphite of suitable quality for use in lithium ion batteries.

That plant will be located in Kwinana, south of Perth, Western Australia.
