THE back to basics strategy of Brierty is paying off with the diversified contractor poised to post $5 million in profit, before tax, for the first half of FY2017, a whopping 733% improvement on the $600,000 loss from first half of the 2016 financial year.

The earnings turnaround has been driven by solid operational performance across Brierty’s projects, which include contract mining and civil work at Rio Tinto’s Western Turner Syncline and two tailings dam lift projects at Marandoo and Boddington, for Rio and Newmont respectively.

Brierty CEO Ray Bushnell said company strategy involved a strict focus on execution, productivity and discipline.

“Our back to basics strategy has also meant revamping parts of our business, with a flatter management structure, improved internal reporting, enhanced plant management, and standardisation of practices across the business,” he said.
