NEW Century Resources has received the go-ahead to start dredging at the Port of Karumba in the Gulf of Carpentaria in preparation for zinc concentrate exports from its Century zinc mine.

Channel dredging re-starts at the port of Karumba

As  part of a scheduled operational restart campaign for the zinc mine New Century will dredge the port to bring the channel back to 3.2m depth to allow transhipment of  up to 5000 tonne parcels of zinc concentrate from the port to bulk cargo export vessels waiting 20km offshore.

The 2018 dredging program will be solely funded by New Century to the tune of $6.8 million, and represent the first dredging activities to be undertaken at Karumba since early 2016.

The dredging program will run for about 60 days.

New Century is on track to restart operations at the Century mine, with first production expected to begin in August.
