According to a May 11 filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission, the Pennsylvania-based producer was issued the order by the US Mine Safety and Health Administration on May 8 for a condition at the West Finley, Pennsylvania complex.
“The … 107(a) MSHA order last Tuesday related to an accumulation of methane at the seal,” spokeswoman Lynn Seay said, clarifying the nondescript filing.
“The area was re-ventilated and the order was abated in less than one hour.”
MSHA issues imminent danger orders under section 107(a) of the Federal Mine Safety and Health Act, also known as the Mine Act.
Section 1503 of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street and Consumer Protection Act, amended last July, requires disclosure of all imminent danger incidents as part of reporting requirements regarding mine safety.
Consol’s Bailey mine, which operates a longwall and continuous miners to extract from the Pittsburgh 8 seam, produced about 10.6 million tons of steam coal last year.
