India cuts coal imports

THE world’s third largest coal user, India, cut imports of the fuel by 13% to 11.6 million tonnes in November, shipping data shows.

Bloomberg reports that Adani Enterprises, Bhatia International, Tata Power and the Steel Authority of India are among buyers that receive 9.25Mt of steaming coal and 2.33Mt of coking coal, according to New Delhi-based ship broker Interocean Group.

The October shipments were 13.3Mt.

India received 7.97Mt of coal from Indonesia, 2.23Mt from Australia and 952,437 tonnes from South Africa, according to the data.

The country also took coal from the United States, Mozambique, New Zealand and Russia.
