Its unveiling comes amid a flurry of activity from the Utah-based, Australian Securities Exchange-listed company.
Besides the LS600 sonic rig launch, the company also announced the global expansion of its mine water services, unveiled its 10UMX diamond bit and launched an app.
The LS600 rig delivers more accurate core sampling, less than 1% hole deviation, reduced waste and faster penetration than conventional methods.
The rig uses sonic frequencies that match the resonant frequency of the ground, allowing the core barrel to easily advance in unconsolidated and difficult overburden formations.
During drilling, boreholes are cased continuously by first allowing the core barrel to advance into the substrate, followed by the outer casing.
The protective measure allows for the accurate measurement of continuous in-situ core samples, even in varying ground conditions.
On the water front, Boart’s mine water services are being expanded to Latin America, Europe, the Middle East and the Asia Pacific.
The company has spent the past 25 years developing an effective reverse circulation method in North America.
Boart Longyear drilling services operations global director Dale Johnson said the company used a unique process that could drill large diameter holes in the most difficult ground conditions in a single pass.
“Drilling a large diameter borehole in a single pass versus multiple passes, which can degrade the borehole, improves the likelihood of drilling a straight borehole to target depth successfully,” he said.
“Our unique method of drilling and completing wells provides better overall well efficiency and production – ultimately saving our clients downtime and money over the life of a well.”
Boart Longyear offers a full range of mine and other water services drilling.
It includes production, dewatering, reinjection, monitoring, geothermal and municipal wells. In North America, Boart also provides pump installation and servicing.
To cope with the hardest ground conditions Boart has introduced the 10UMX bit.
The 10UMX is a diamond coring bit with the freest cutting matrix available.
The bits also use Boart’s patented Stage waterway design.
For the driller that has everything comes the Boart Longyear mobile phone app.
It promises to keep drillers updated with the latest drilling news while also getting access to product and service information on the go.
The app allows users to view and send brochures, scan quick response codes, access the latest news and contact Boart Longyear.
The free app is available through iTunes and provides information in English, French, Russian and Spanish.
