The acquisition, first announced in May, has created what will be known as GE-Fairchild under the GE Mining umbrella.
GE said the newly named arm would employ 140 and continue to produce equipment such as battery-powered scoops, continuous miners, haulage systems, shield haulers and maintenance vehicles.
“Becoming part of the GE Mining team is a very proud moment in our nearly half-century history,” Fairchild International president Myrleen Fairchild said.
“We look forward to contributing to GE Mining’s global growth through the continued development of Fairchild equipment.”
GE Mining, with the addition of Fairchild’s assets, is planning to expand its line and grow from a domestic to a global supplier.
“We highly value the industry knowledge and expertise in designing, building and servicing underground mining equipment that Fairchild brings to GE Mining,” GE Transportation president and chief executive Lorenzo Simonelli said.
The Fairchild takeover is part of a plan by GE Mining to address about 35% of the underground mining value chain, which it also did through its Industrea acquisition that was announced at the same time.
The Industrea transaction is still in process.
GE said it would introduce its combined presence with GE-Fairchild at MINExpo in Las Vegas September 24-26.
