Officials said Timothy Chamness, 28, of Royalton, was the operator of a continuous miner at Knight Hawk Coal’s Prairie Eagle South operation in Cutler, Perry County.

He was the fourth US coal mine fatality this year.

Chamness had more than four years of experience, including two years at Prairie Eagle South.

He had worked as a continuous miner operator for 26 weeks.

Knight Hawk began production in 2009. It has maintained a lost-time incident rate better than the national average since its opening.
