Thiess wins coal plant contract

CONTRACTING company, Thiess have won a $82 million contract to construct a coal handling and preparation plant (CHPP) at Hail Creek Mine, near Nebo in Queensland's Bowen Basin.

Thiess and joint venture partner Sedgman will design, construct, commission and test a new, state-of-the-art CHPP for Pacific Coal subsidiary Hail Creek Developments.

Design of the new plant has begun and construction will start in July, with completion expected by August 2003.

Process engineering manager Qld/NT/PNG Peter Halpin said: "I believe our success was due to having the best available CHPP technology and the same commitment as our client to a safe workplace, minimal environmental impact and to supporting the communities surrounding the project.”
