Underground mining equipment president and chief operating officer Edward “Ted” Doheny has been appointed his successor.

Company officials said 66-year-old Sutherlin would formally retire on February 14, 2014.

The transition in responsibilities to 50-year-old Doheny, who has been with Joy since 2006, is expected to be complete by December– just after the OEM’s fiscal 2013 ful- year results release.

When Doheny takes the helm, Joy Global will create the position of corporate chief operating officer. It has tapped president and surface mining equipment chief operating officer Randal Baker for that seat.

In this role, 49-year-old Baker, who has been with the OEM since 2009, will oversee the surface and underground equipment divisions.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Joy Global, and appreciate the support from the Joy Global team, our customers and our shareholders,” Sutherlin said.

“I believe that I leave the company with a strong team, with a commitment to performance excellence and well positioned for the future. Both Ted and Randy have been an instrumental part of our success to date, and they share the commitment to our strategy.”

Joy manufactures, services and distributes under Joy Mining Machinery for underground equipment and P&H Mining Equipment for surface equipment.
