Ribnet, a new galvanised, woven-wire netting product from BHP, is designed for use as a cuttable coal rib support mesh. According to the manufacturer, Ribnet was developed in conjunction with coal miners to provide a cost-effective approach to mine rib support.

BHP said trials had demonstrated that the netting was typically less than half the cost of alternative coal rib support materials. Made from steel, it was also magnetically separable.

"Ribnet can be installed manually or from spindles mounted on a variety of underground machines, and is supplied in roll form in 15-25m lengths and widths between 900-1200mm," BHP said.
