The BLM’s Royal Gorge field office, which confirmed the filing on Friday, manages the 16,323 acres.

Under licensing processes by BLM mandates the company must open an invitation for public comments on the proposal prior to commencing any exploration.

Those seeking to participate in the exploration have until February 25 to notify the BLM as well as the company in writing.

Once the notice period expires, the agency will begin an environmental assessment to analyze T&O’s plan.

Colorado has nine actively producing coal mines, seven underground and two surface, 75,000 acres of which is on federal land.

T&O, with offices in Dallas, Texas, and Hong Kong, was established in April 2011 as a coal exploration and development company by a team of Australian coal and investment individuals with a focus on North American coal.

Its current interests are in Oklahoma, Texas, Colorado and British Columbia, Canada.
