The large-scale commercial mine on Semirara Island collapsed late on Wednesday after being hit by a landslide.

Search and rescue operations continue for the missing men identified as Leovigildo Porras, Jan Riel Planca, Randy Tamparong, Richard Padernilla and Junjie Gomez.

Also confirmed in the latest update from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management are the names of the deceased; George Bragat, Abner Lim, Joven Hocate, Efren Equiza and Anthony Sibet.

Marjun Catoto, Adrian Celmar and Leonardo Sojor were rescued and are receiving treatment.

“The management is in the process of determining the cause of the accident in coordination with relevant government authorities. Meanwhile, it has stopped operations to ensure the safety of all its personnel,” said resident manager of the Semirara Mining Corporation George San Pedro.

Survivors say they felt a tremor before the west wall of the open-pit mine caved in on the 13 men working an overnight shift.

Semirara Corporation controls the open-pit mine and is the Philippines' largest producer of coal.
