Mining bumps up Wall Street

US stocks closed up on Monday, boosted by gains in the resources sector. Caterpillar shares were up 2.8% to $82.71 after the company said it didn’t believe that slowed spending in the mining sector was permanent, despite reporting a Q1 loss. Arch Coal made a good start to the week, up 2.1% to $4.89, while Peabody and Walter stayed below the black line, dropping 1.6% and 2.2%, respectively.
