Cliffs loses McAllister

OHIO-headquartered Cliffs Natural Resources has accepted the immediate resignation of one of its board members, mining veteran Francis McAllister.

McAllister, who also stepped down from his chief executive officer position with Stillwater Mining earlier this month, is retiring.

He had served as a Cliffs board member since 1996.

His successor will be James Kirsch.

Kirsch, former chairman, president and CEO of Ferro, will be the producer’s lead director as of its July board meeting.

He was first elected to the Cliffs board of directors in 2010 and serves on two board committees: compensation and organization, and governance and nominating.

Cliffs CEO Joseph Carrabba said McAllister had been invaluable to the company.

“Frank's industry knowledge and commitment to sustainable mining have been a tremendous asset to Cliffs. His experience, sage advice and diplomatic skills enhanced the quality of our board deliberations.”
