The three-day event is set for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at the Jerry L Stewart Ohio Mine Safety Training Center near Cadiz.
Teams from Ohio as well as Illinois, Kentucky, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia will take part in bench and first aid and pre-shift inspection competitions as well a mine rescue contest.
“Teams [will be] tested in a variety of activities including mine rescue, breathing apparatus troubleshooting and pre-shift contests, which test mining officials in identifying hazards before mining begins,” according to the event coordinator, the National Mine Rescue Association’s Post 6 region.
The events of the competition will be judged by officials from the US Department of Labor, the West Virginia Office of Miners’ Health, Safety and Training, the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.
