BHP Illawarra introduces monitoring, reporting system

BHP Illawarra’s coal operations have decided to install a product called MineSuite, a production monitoring and reporting system, developed by Newcastle-based Advanced Systems Integration (ASI).

Completely user configurable, MineSuite can be used across all mining operations whether they are open cut, underground or preparation/processing plants. The generic nature of the product gives mines the ability to tailor the product to their specific operation needs. In underground mines data can be extracted from existing control systems within the mine or by manually entering the data into the system.

Information on equipment, delays, key performance indicators (KPI’s), production etc can all be generated through MineSuite’s reporting module. High-impact graphical reports can be developed by mine personnel without the need for any SQL knowledge or programming skills.

Examples of equipment that can be monitored by the system include conveyors, longwall unit, continuous miner and shuttle cars. From this, reports on downtime, longwall production, development production, belt system delays etc can be produced. All reports are also user configurable meaning only information important to the mine is viewed.

Already installed and commissioned in both Appin and West Cliff collieries, MineSuite is proving to be a success, according to ASI.

“Systems with the ability to monitor and report on production in underground mines are scarce. MineSuite is thus a true solution in this area providing mine personnel with information important to their operation,” ASI said.
