They received sentences ranging from three to six years, Fuyuan County People's Court said on Tuesday.

The gas leak at the Sizhuang coal mine in Shizong county on November 10, 2011, killed 43 people.

According to the China Daily, it also resulted in economic losses of up to $US6.4 million.

According to the court hearing, in 2008 the safety supervision bureau expressed concern at the mine's safety procedures. This resulted in its safety permits being withheld from November 2010 to November 2011. However, the mine continued to operate, exposing miners to unsafe working conditions.
