On the move

IT ALWAYS looks better when a company announces the “planned” departure of its chief strategy officer.

So it is with Cliffs Natural Resources, which has announced CSO Steve Raguz, who also is executive vice-president corporate strategy and communications, is leaving the company effective May 1.

Raguz will be joining a private company in the Cleveland area as its chief financial officer.

“During his time, Steve played an important role in developing and implementing Cliffs’ strategy over the past several years,” executive chairman Joseph Carrabba said.

“He has provided leadership in building the company’s capital structure and was an integral part of Cliffs achieving an investment-grade rating.”

Raguz joined Cliffs in 2007 as vice-president of financial planning.

During his career with the company, he assumed key executive management positions in the finance, strategy, treasury, communications and investor relations functions.

Cloud Peak Energy

Another executive heading to the exits is Cloud Peak’s senior vice-president of technical services, Nick Taylor.

He will be finishing up with the coal miner on August 16.

Taylor has held the senior VP technical services role since 2009 and previously served in various capacities with Cloud Peak’s predecessor, Rio Tinto.
