The lease, known formally as Williams Draw, is about 30 miles southeast of Price and encompasses about 4191 acres with recoverable reserves of more than 30 million tons.

The BLM said the parcel had been previously leased, and could be mined via longwall mining with the exception of areas underlying protected surface water resources.

“Varying levels of surface subsidence can be expected with full extraction mining, and for which mitigation measures have been added,” the agency said.

Officials did not indicate which company or group filed the lease by application preceding the comment period.

The proposal has been posted at the BLM Utah Environmental Notification Bulletin Board under the reference “Williams Draw”

Comments on issues relevant to proposed mining or relating to technical or scientific information must be submitted to the BLM Price office by June 15.

The agency reserves the right to make all comments and identifying details public information.
