Arrests made in CT anti-coal protest

FOUR demonstrators were taken into custody late Thursday in a Connecticut protest of financial services group UBS, which the group said provided financial support to mountaintop removal miners in Appalachia.

According to the Stamford Advocate, two men and two women were charged with criminal trespass and breach of peace after staging a sit-down protest outside of the company’s entrance.

The individuals, representing Capitalism vs the Climate and Hands Off Appalachia, would not leave the UBS property and were subsequently arrested, officials told the paper.

According to the environmentalists, UBS supports the industry through its lending for MTR efforts in Kentucky, Virginia and West Virginia.
