“It is heartening that Coal India’s [production] growth in the first half of the year has crossed 9 per cent and we hope that it would double by the end of the year,” he said.

“Last year this growth percentage was zero.”

The minister told India News that this year coal supply had been up 12% to the country’s power sector.

On coal block allotments Jaiswal said that after the inter-ministerial review 13 allotments had been cancelled while the bank guarantees from some others had been seized.

He said strict action would be taken against those found guilty on the Central Bureau of Investigation report.
