Australia's APLNG joint venture and coal company MetroCoal have decided to get together in a bid to reach an agreement on the best way to develop overlapping permits.

The coal mining company has decided to support the award of CSG petroleum permits over part of its Norwood project area in the Surat Basin on condition that both parties come to the table.

It has also agreed that in the absence of a development plan consented by both parties, it would fall back on an overlapping tenure plan thought up by the Queensland Resources Council and lodged with the Queensland Department of Natural Resources and Mines earlier this year.

The pair have also agreed to look for acceptable development options in other overlapping areas.
