BHPB among world's most respected firms: survey

BHP Billiton has made it onto a list of the world's 90 most respected companies, as voted by 1000 chief executives in more than 20 countries. Published on MiningNews.net on January 21.

BHPB came in at equal 61 in the Financial Times/PricewaterhouseCoopers' World's Most Respected Companies rankings, and was voted the most respected company within Australia.

Former BHPB chief executive Brian Gilbertson was listed number 53 on the world's most respected business leader list.

Mining services giant Caterpillar came in at equal 73 on the global list, and was placed 59 in the category of CEOs/companies that will make the most impact on economic/social issues over the next five to 10 years.

On the list of the most respected resources companies, BHPB and Rio Tinto placed equal fourth, and Alcoa came in at number nine.

The world's biggest iron ore producer, CVRD, was named the second-most respected company in Brazil; Alcan was number four in Canada; and Sandvik was number seven in Sweden.

The overall number one spot was retained by US giant General Electric for the fifth year running, while Microsoft again took second ranking and IBM was third.
