Yancoal seeks Hunter expansion

Chinese majority-owned Yancoal will emerge as a major force in Australian coal if it succeeds in acquiring Rio Tinto’s Hunter Valley coal assets in a $US2.45 billion deal. The deal will combine Yancoal’s expertise in open cut mining gained at its Moolarben coal mine with that of Rio Tinto’s Coal & Allied subsidiary.

Yancoal could combine the open cut expertise gained at is Moolarben mine with Rio Tinto's own expertise.

It would transform Yancoal into Australia’s largest, pure-play coal producer with expected pro-forma run of mine coal production of 71 million tonnes per annum.
