Peabody adds to its seaborne hard coking coal

PEABODY has signed a deal to buy the Shoal Creek metallurgical coal mine in the US from private coal producer Drummond Company for US$400 million.

Shoal Creek joins other Peabody longwall mines such as North Goonyella.

The bad news for Australian producers is that some of the 2 million short tons the mine produces each year will still be sent to Asian steel mills. The rest will go to European mills.
