NSW underground coal production dives

A 19% increase in raw coal production from New South Wales underground mines during the December 2017 quarter was not enough to offset the fall in production experienced during the September quarter, resulting in a 5.7% annual decline in the state’s underground coal mines in 2017.

This led to a 3.7 million tonne drop in production for the year to 61.1Mt of raw coal from 20 underground mines, of which 16 were longwall operations, according to Coal Services.
