On September 2, Fathers' Day in Australia, miners at Beta Hunt near Kambalda in Western Australia, hit some serious gold.
One specimen stone was a 95kg stone and when the ore had all been collected it was estimated about 9250 ounces of gold had been recovered.
However, given the nature of the ore around the mine, where large lumps of gold had been found back when it was a nickel operation, Beta Hunt owner RNC Minerals came under pressure to repeat the act.
It has done that, announcing on Sunday that it had doubled the strike length of the high grade coarse gold structure it is calling the Fathers' Day Vein to about 10m after restarting development in the area.
