Hastings Deering overhaul longwall mining equipment

Hastings Deering's longwall workshop in Central Queensland has been dedicated to overhauling longwalls for over 20 years. The Hastings Deering underground facility is also home to Mackay's ONLY specialist shearer rebuild facility. The facility is equipped to perform 12 hour heat runs as part of the quality checks following an overhaul and regularly invites its customers to be a part of this process. Offering an end-to-end solution, they understand that no two underground operations are the same, ensuring that the scope is mine site specific. The workshop in Paget, Mackay is home to this purpose-built facility.

Offering an end-to-end solution, they understand that no two underground operations are the same, ensuring that the scope is mine site specific.

The workshop in Paget, Mackay is home to a shearer overhaul work centre, a purpose-built facility to overhaul underground shearers. In that facility the team also overhaul coal clearance products, roof supports, transmissions, gearboxes, electrical, valving and anything you can find on a underground longwall.

The Hastings Deering underground workshop specialise in full roof support, AFC/BSL and shearer overhauls, with a dedicated component overhaul facility to process all of your underground component overhauls with the following listed features:

    • ISO9001 AS3584 and AS3800 compliant
    • 108T dual lift crane capacity
    • 3.3 kV high voltage supply
    • 6,000m2 undercover and 13,000m2 hardstand
    • Heavy fabrication and structural repairs
    • Sand blast & paint
    • Test and repair PMC suite
    • Electro hydraulic Testing Facility
    • Metallizing technologies
    • Machining and general engineering
    • Hydraulic cylinder overhaul
    • Undercover powered longwall mini build and compatibility testing

A valve rebuild workshop and cable-making facility also complements underground overhauls, with the ability to provide specialist rebuilds and in-house testing following an overhaul.

Where AS3800 and flameproof overhauls are required, the Hastings Deering workshops hold the appropriate qualifications to achieve compliant rebuilds. Its full electrical test facility is capable of testing and running up to 3.3kV, ensuring the rebuild quality of all electrical equipment. Full test facilities, including high pressure solcenic fluid throughout the facility allow for high standards of quality assurance following component overhauls, with heat runs and vibration analysis providing confidence in overhaul quality.

For the team at Hastings Deering, it is about reducing and mitigating risks. The more testing that can be conducted above ground in the workshop before it is put to work means the team can closely monitor and evaluate the necessary modifications with their longwall technical resources.

Hastings Deering customers benefit in their confidence that their equipment upgrades and modifications are fully integrated into the system ahead of the equipment's return to work.
