Rio Tinto transitions mine to renewable diesel

RIO Tinto has transitioned its Boron borates mine in California, US’ Death Valley to renewable diesel, making it the first open pit mine in the world to make the switch.

Rio Tinto's Boron mine is California's largest open pit operation.

This transition includes haul trucks and loaders. Renewable diesel is even used in blasting.

The mine is operated by Rio Tinto's borax business US Borax and produces 532,000t of borates a year.
