A WALL failure within the Kali Kuning open pit at Finders Resources’ Wetar copper project in Indonesia has caused a 12-hour mining suspension there.

The Kali Kuning pit wall has failed again.

About 300,000 bank cubic metres of waste rock from the northeastern highwall was displaced into the Kali Kuning pit on October 1.

Mining was stopped to allow for a geotechnical assessment.

The footprint of the slip has temporarily isolated a significant part of the Kali Kuning ore.

Remediation operations are being assessed and it is likely the waste removal will hurt short-term mine production.

Solvent extraction-electrowinning operations are not expected to be interrupted because there is enough in the heap pads and solution to maintain production rates for the immediate future.
