Matrix was awarded a $2.4 million manufacturing contract to develop and manufacture the prototypes, with the potential there also for future large-scale manufacturing.
It will manufacture the prototype systems at its Henderson facility, with the initial stage expected to be finished in 2019's second half.
If the four prototypes are deemed to be commercially viable, Matrix will make another 110 units.
Matrix can market the units to other potential Australian customers under a 20-year licence.
Matrix CEO Aaron Begley said the contract was a major step towards what could become a large scale manufacturing project.
Begley said Matrix was working with Pacific National on the final stage of the design phase.
