Mining on the moon

GIANT steps are what the CSIRO is asking the domestic space sector to take to help develop a human base on the moon. However, some of the technologies it is chasing seem to already be in place in Australia’s mining industry.

According to CSIRO, meeting the lunar challenge would involve building capabilities in:

  • Autonomous robotic systems;
  • In-situ resource utilisation;
  • Habitat and life support; and
  • Power and propulsion.
