A SURVEY of miners and mining original equipment manufacturers has found there needs to be a paradigm shift in thinking if the industry is serious about electrification for the future.

The survey found there was a big demand for carbon reduction in the sector, which could be met by electrification, which cuts both operational and capital costs.

Conducted by EY on participants at the University of Queensland and University of British Columbia, the survey found mine electrification was high on the agenda of miners eager to keep a cap on costs.
