CH4 managing director, Louis Rozman, said yesterday "The MGP is delivering full contract volumes to its primary customer, Enertrade, on a daily basis. Gas quality is also meeting contract specifications. Enertrade is delivering CH4's gas to the 220MW Yabulu Power Station in Townsville."

"North Queensland now has its first base load power station in full operation and it is running on clean natural gas, an environmentally friendly outcome that is great for all stakeholders".

CH4 and BHP Billiton have a 15 year supply agreement with Enertrade to supply up to 290 PJ of gas over the life of the contract.

CH4 said the MGP, the Moranbah to Townsville pipeline, and the Yabulu Power Station form part of the North Queensland Gas Project, and are an integral part of the Queensland Government's Cleaner Energy Strategy, under which electricity retailers are required to source at least 13% of all electricity sold from gas-fired generation from 1 January 2005.

In other news, commercial lawyer Robert Backwell has been appointed to the board. Backwell is an executive director of Macquarie Direct Investment Limited (MDI).

He has been responsible for a number of MDI's investments, including those in Repco Corporation Limited and HPAL Limited. He was also involved in the establishment of CH4 in 2000.
