Ampcontrol, one of Australia’s largest privately owned electrical and electronic manufacturing, design and service companies, has recently partnered with Simtars, the Queensland Department of Natural Resources and Mines Safety in Mines Testing and Research Station, to offer a totally integrated solution for customers in gas detection and monitoring.

The new system utilises Ampcontrol’s minewide monitoring solution and Simtars’ latest computer-aided technology in gas monitoring and gas trending software.

Ampcontrol CEO Alan Broadfoot said the company’s recently released Gasguard Gas Sensing equipment, comprising sensors, controllers and uninterrupted power supplies (UPS), and their award-winning iMAC system (integrated monitoring and control system), can easily interface with Simtars Safegas and Segas Pro software to continuously monitor and track the current gas levels in any underground mining environment.

Simtars Safegas software provides users with a state of the art data capture tool that identifies mine sampling points, and provides on-screen gas concentrations and a sophisticated alarm system. Coupled with Segas Pro software, Broadfoot said the tracking and trending of gas concentrations using a variety of scientific models was now possible.

“Ampcontrol see this as a major benefit and positive step forward in the continuous development of safe products for the difficult underground conditions. Safety is paramount in such harsh environments, and working with organisations such as Simtars allows us to provide a seamless product with multiple benefits to customers,” Broadfoot said.

Simtars director Stewart Bell said Simtars was one of the world’s leading agencies on gas monitoring in coal mines and was looking to further strengthen their position by partnering with Ampcontrol.

Simtars also provides advice in the development of system specifications, installation and supply of gas monitoring systems, development and implementation of procedures and policies relative to gas monitoring, and delivery of training for staff to safely deal with gases in their everyday work.
