The new generation vertical connector has been designed to meet the higher expectations of today's mining engineers and the increased mechanical loadings created by modern high-capacity twin-strand conveyors, the company said.

“Simplicity and performance were the key criteria considered by RUD when developing the design of the new connector,” RUD said.

The new connector offers a range of benefits including simple assembly and savings in installation time, achieved by a single locking pin that is easily engaged and disengaged. Also, minimal “slack” is required for assembly. A short sliding length makes fitting and removal a simple task. Also, they are fully interchangeable with conventional style block connectors.

The new PowerBlock connector achieves a minimum dynamic rating of 100,000 load cycles, compared to the minimum 40,000 load cycle requirement specified under DIN 22258-3. The Tensile Breaking Force is a proven 2350kN, rating highly against the minimum requirement (under DIN 22258-3) of 2220kN.

“Longwall mines using the RUD PowerBlock Connector already report extended service life (relative to alternative connector types) - which further enhances RUD's long-established reputation for innovative and robust design, backed by the highest quality production processes,” the company said.
