The CHPP is for BMA’s proposed Daunia mine, 25km south of Moranbah.

Sedgman Coal chief executive Steve van Barneveld said the contract was proof of his company’s commitment to providing solutions to its customers.

Sedgman already operates the nearby Red Mountain CHPP for joint venture partners BHP and Peabody.

In the Daunia contract Sedgman’s coal division will design and procure the CHPP, with components scheduled for delivery in 2009.

Sedgman and BMA are still working on a construction timeline for the plant.

BMA’s planned opencut Daunia mine is expected to produce 4 million tonnes of semi-hard coking coal and PCI per annum.

The first coal is expected in 2010 and the mine is expected to have a life of around 21 years.

Sedgman managing director Mark Read said the Daunia contract maintained the company’s momentum in the coal sector.
