The man, who was transported from the site by ambulance to Granity where he was transferred to the rescue helicopter and flown to Greymouth, has moderate injuries and is in a stable condition in Grey Base Hospital, Solid said yesterday.

The accident happened at 11am on the site of a new coal processing and handling plant currently under construction at the mine. A container being moved by crane tipped, catching the man against a second container.

A Department of Labour Mines Inspector has completed an initial review of the accident site.

Separate investigations are being carried out by construction company Brightwater, which is building the coal processing plant, and Solid Energy.
