The 32nd International Conference of Safety in Mines Research Institutes (SIMRI) will be held in Beijing on September 28–29, 2007.

Regarded as the pre-eminent gathering of mine safety research professionals in the world, the SIMRI conference has been held biennially for the past 50 years. Simtars were hosts for the 2005 conference in Brisbane, Queensland.

This year’s conference, organised by Madam Jiaohua Sun of the National Centre for International Exchange and Cooperation of Work Safety (Coal Mine Safety), will be themed: “Safety First – to upgrade mine safety and occupational health”

It features an expansive list of Chinese speakers, as well as presenters from the US, UK, Australia, Spain, Poland and Ukraine.

Topics to be covered include:

Prevention technology for severe mine gas accidents;

Supervision regulations and management mechanism construction on work safety ventilation;

Mine fire prevention and control technology;

Mine water prevention and control technology;

Roof control mechanism;

Coal dust control and prevention of occupational diseases; and

Mine rescue.

Simtars has sent all 2005 delegates a CD of the 2005 SIMRI conference presentations and photos to remind them of the benefits they gained in Brisbane and to invite them to get together again in Beijing. The CD can be purchased from Maree Tanner at Simtars.
