Touch Life will open in the coal-rich Hunter Valley on Saturday, April 26 with a corporate touch football tournament that will include two teams from the NSW Minerals Council.

On Saturday night attendees will be treated to a concert featuring Aussie stars Leo Sayer and Ricki Lee, along with the Sydney Street Choir.

The Grand Final family day, to be held on Sunday, April 27, will feature wine tastings, fine food and children's entertainment, and is being sponsored by the mining industry through the NSW Minerals Council.

Minerals Council chief executive Dr Nikki Williams said the event was an innovative way to raise awareness and funds for people in need.

“Many Australians live in crisis every day," Williams said.

“The 2001 Census found that 100,000 Australians are homeless, and 500 people per day are turned away from homeless services."

Teams from Xstrata Coal, Centennial Coal, Peabody Energy and Integra Coal will participate in the event.

All funds raised from Touch Life will go to support homeless services at Wesley Mission in New South Wales and the Hutt St Centre in Adelaide.
