Airly will produce 1.6-1.8 million tonnes per annum of coal, which will be exported through Port Kembla.
Laing O’Rourke has been contracted to design and construct the crusher and rail loop at the $A104 million project, and is using a Sany SCC1500C 150t crawler crane dry-hired from Aitkin Cranes.
Laing O’Rourke’s Gypsy Korach said the Sany had performed faultlessly, working long hours for five months.
“So far the biggest lift has been 35 tonnes and we have some bigger lifts of galleries up to 45 tonnes due shortly,” he said.
“The operators like the Sany SCC1500C, as it is soft in the touch and slews slowly and smoothly.”
“We’ve never worked with a Chinese crane before and, as best we know, this is one of the best to come from China.
The Sany SSC1500C has a maximum hoisting capacity of 150t. The boom length varies from 18m to 81m, with 100m available from a boom/jib combination.
Power is from a six-cylinder Cummins diesel rated at 231 kilowatts at 2100rpm.
