Sandvik did not name the client or the country in which the equipment will be operating.

The continuous mining equipment will be used for overburden removal and coal handling.

The contract will contribute to Sandvik’s mining business until 2015.

Sandvik president Gary Hughes said the contract reflected the company’s ability to continue its strong foothold in the Asian sector.

“This new contract confirms Sandvik’s strong customer offering and again demonstrates our capabilities of providing excellent technical solutions based on our vast competence in the area of continuous mining and materials handling applications,” Hughes said.

The new contract comes soon after Sandvik signed a $US73 million contract with China’s Shenhua Shendong for the supply of 21 bolter miners.

Shenhua Shendong is the biggest subsidiary of the Shenhua Group, with mines located in Shanxi province and Inner Mongolia.
