The submarine communications cable will be laid on the seabed between land-based stations to carry telecommunications and data signals across the Narrows.

This infrastructure will be used to monitor the gas flow and remotely control critical equipment such as emergency shutdown valves.

The Narrows Crossing consists of a 1067 millimetre gas pipeline and fibre optic cable. It runs across a marine channel, mangrove creeks and intertidal mudflats between the export header pipeline and the main gas plants on Curtis Island.

The gas going to Curtis Island comes from fields in central Queensland.

Construction is scheduled for completion in late 2012 and deliver of first LNG from the plant is scheduled for 2014.
