Exhibition director Reed Mining Events Paul Baker said demand for accommodation in Mackay is usually at a premium, being booked out months beforehand.
“That often leaves those who decide to come along a few weeks, or even days before the show, having to settle for accommodation quite a way out of town, or to fly in and out for a day,” he said.
“However, this year we have arranged additional accommodation for potentially several hundred people on council land right next to the beach at south Mackay, only about ten minutes’ drive to the exhibition.”
The site will include full shower and toilet facilities mounted on semi-trailers.
Amenities serving hot breakfasts, dinner and snacks on licensed premises will be located nearby.
BBQs will also be available in the park and a number of refrigerators supplied.
QME will be held at the Mackay Showgrounds from July 24-26.
