Calibre Group’s newly acquired maintenance and asset management business G&S Engineering Services bagged a $46.8 million contract for the installation of coal stackers and reclaimers at the mine.

Engineering group Monadelphous Group has been awarded a contract valued at approximately $100 million to construct the coal handling plant at Caval Ridge, which lies southeast of Moranbah.

The contract is for the provision of civil, structural, mechanical, piping and electrical and instrumentation works for the plant.

Work will commence immediately and is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of the 2013 calendar year.

In February this year Leighton subsidiary Thiess was awarded a $180 million contract with BMA for civil earthworks at Caval Ridge.

Caval Ridge open cut coal mine is expected to produce up to 5.5 million tonnes per annum.

It will be an open cut dragline and truck and shovel operation, with coal railed to BMA’s Hay Point coal terminal.

The mine-life initial is expected to be greater than 60 years.
