According to Statistics Canada $C6.7 million of petroleum and coal products were sold in June, up 7.4% quarter on quarter and 2.5% year on year.

Sales fell in 16 of 21 industries, representing about 56% of the sector, dropping total sales 0.5% to $48.2 billion for June.

The June data represents the fourth decrease in six months and led analysts to anticipate poor results for the country’s second quarter.

The volume of sales, used in calculating real gross domestic product, fell 1.3%.

Coal and petroleum sales made the second-largest industry increase during June, behind a 10.1% increase in sales of aerospace products and parts.

The industry’s sales declined in Ontario and British Columbia but increased in Quebec.

Figures for the coal industry alone were not available.
