According to Trend News, Yunush Guclu died in hospital from injuries suffered in the blaze at an unidentified operation in the Darkele district, Manisa province, early Sunday morning.

Twenty-eight workers were reportedly underground and became trapped in the smoke-filled tunnels of the mine, which was said to be privately owned.

Of the 27 others rescued by emergency crews, 21 were treated for injuries and another six were pulled from the mine without harm.

Manisa governor Abdurrahman Savas told Turkish media that the fire was caused by a blast that occurred along electrical wires. Another report by news agency FNA said a mine shaft collapsed.

Officials also noted that the miner who died was in close proximity to the blaze, leading to a higher level of smoke inhalation.

An autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
