The unique “auto ranging”’ capability enables key gases such as hydrogen, carbon monoxide and ethylene to be easily analysed in concentrations ranging from parts per million to percentage concentrations using a single analytical method.

CMTS manager Peter Mason said: “Gas monitoring is a critical element in maintaining a safe underground mine environment.

“The SMARTGAS gas chromatograph system allows fast analysis and long-term trending to help identify any potential and actual gas related hazards to management.

“The ability to remotely access and provide technical support for the system gives confidence for operators and ensure integrity of the data produced.”

The SMARTGAS gas chromatographic analysis is now available at Mines Rescue stations in Newcastle and the Hunter Valley as well as through CMTS in Wollongong.

Hunter Valley mines rescue manager David Connell said: “We are thrilled to have one of the CMTS SMARTGAS GC Systems up and running at the Hunter Valley station.

“This will improve the turnaround time in providing gas analysis for our local mining customers.”
