The miners were trapped in a rock burst that happened at 11.18am on Thursday.

Working in a shaft of Qianqiu Coal Mine were 18 miners. Of the group, 12 escaped unharmed.

Rock burst accidents are caused by fissures in the rock caused by extensive mining. They can trigger mining lanes to cave in.

Qianqiu Coal Mine also suffered a major rock burst accident in 2011, when 10 workers were killed.
